The Association of Inspectors General presents its Institute certification programs. Participants receive instruction in core competency areas identified by the Association. The Association awards the designation of Certified Inspector GeneralTM, Certified Inspector General InvestigatorTM and Certified Inspector General AuditorTM to individuals who successfully complete the certification programs and meet the eligibility requirements regarding education and experience.
Certified Inspector GeneralTM
The Association has identified six broad areas of core competency for inspectors general and their senior staff. The Association's five-day curriculum covers the following six core competency areas:

- Office management issues
- Investigating fraud, waste, and abuse
- Audits, inspections, and reviews
Certified Inspector General InvestigatorTM
The Association has identified seven essential areas for inspectors general investigators.

Certified Inspector General AuditorTM
The Association has identified ten essential areas for inspectors general auditors.

The Inspector General Institute TM certification programs are offered periodically in different U.S. locations.
